More roadworks to add to Derby's rush-hour delays
COMMUTERS could face further delays as more roadworks are set to begin in the city centre on Monday.
Western Power Distribution will be carrying out work in Ashbourne Road as part of a £10 million scheme to link the city centre with the national supply grid in Findern.

These works are expected to be complete by the end of next week. Drivers have been facing long delays in St Alkmund's Way, King Street and the A52 since January 21 due to works being carried out on the inner ring road, set to continue until June.
A spokeswoman for Derby City Council said: "The council looked extremely carefully at other work already taking place in the city and the potential impact of diverted traffic on other routes.

“There is a common saying regarding "Pee up in a brewery" and organisation - it appears that is very apt in the roadwork situation at present around Derby, from around Darley Abbey, Ashbourne Road, St. Alkmunds Way et al. The whole City is being brought to a standstill through bad planning and traffic management, causing needless delays, work time lost, frustrated drivers, and dare I say it - higher pollution levels from standing traffic - why can't these works be scheduled as to not cause undue delays, or as in other countries be worked on through the night to complete necessary repairs in a timely manner - it seems that some repairs are started, and then left untouched for sometimes weeks!!! Only in England.”
