THIS year's annual well-dressing ceremony in Belper will be held at the town's memorial gardens while work continues at the event's usual home.

The ceremony would usually take place at the River Gardens, but they are being refurbished. The well dressings will take place from Saturday, July 11, to Thursday, July 16.

Town council leader John Nelson said: "While we're disappointed that the well dressing won't be held in Belper River Gardens this year, it's important that the restoration work is completed to the highest possible standard, and with as little distraction as possible. Following a recent visit to the gardens to see the works in progress I feel confident the end result will be well worth the wait and will be a credit to Belper."
