A SPECTACULAR century from Wes Durston and a 50 on his return for Wayne Madsen made it a good day for Derbyshire on the second day of their match against Nottinghamshire at North Stars.

Madsen, who had to sit out all the previous games on the pre-season tour to Barbados, made 51 and Durston retired out after completing his hundred with five successive sixes off left-arm spinner Graeme White.

Derbyshire finished their final day of competitive action on the tour on 293-7 in response to Notts' 386.

There were spells of rare and welcome rain overnight, which slowed down the outfield and demanded a watchful start from the Derbyshire openers, but they safely put on 32 in 13 overs before Billy Godleman was drawn into a hook at a Ben Phillips ball and was caught by James Taylor at square leg.

Godleman made 15 but Madsen's timing became noticeably better in the second hour as Ben Slater joined him at the crease.

Slater also looked steady but was out for 22 to the fourth ball after lunch, caught behind off Jake Ball, though Madsen moved on to his 50 off 106 balls with six fours before he was lbw to a Gurney delivery at 104-3.

Chesney Hughes moved smoothly on to 31 before gloving a catch down the leg side off Luke Fletcher at 142-4 but Durston, having recovered from a knee problem overnight to take his turn to bat, showed no ill effects as he completed his 50 off 49 balls with six fours and two sixes.

But his next 50 needed only 24 balls as he rounded it off in the grandest of manners by driving White out of the ground off five balls in a row.

Tom Poynton made a useful 37 before he was caught at first slip at 278-6 and David Wainwright went the same way in the final over, with Richard Johnson unbeaten on 17 at the close as another pre-season tour came to an end.
