Derbyshire weather update: Warning for ice as temperatures plunge to -2

TEMPERATURES dropped to below freezing on Monday night as a severe weather warning has been put in place for Derbyshire on Tuesday.

Ongoing snow flurries start to settle on untreated pavements and roads throughout Monday and the Met Office was warning the public may see some localised travel disruption and a further 1cm - 3cm of snow into Tuesday morning.

Temperatures are set to drop well below freezing overnight, dropping to -4.

Forecasters said the biting winds will mean the chance of ice is slim, as it is drying out the ground. But there will be a covering of frost in the morning over the next couple of days.

A Met Office spokesman said: "Towards to end of the week, the winds will still be biting and a northerly wind will bring a bout of low pressure with it, causing rain showers.

"Thursday and Friday will see more rain and sleet than snow.

"But temperatures will still be around the 4C or 5C mark, a lot lower than the 9C March average."
