More snow on way and we might see white Christmas (with pictures)
MORE snow could be on the way for Derbyshire this week – with the possibility of a white Christmas.
Despite today seeing an anticipated respite from the wintry weather, it is predicted the county might see a repeat of yesterday afternoon's weather on Christmas Day.
A Met Office spokesman said the week would be very cold whatever happens.
He said: "We are expecting sharp frosts overnight but the week will start brighter.
"On Wednesday there might be a few showers around. On Thursday there could be quite a few snow showers around.
"On Christmas Day most of the snow will be up around Scotland but there could be a few snow showers in the north west that could filter through to Derbyshire."
Many people made the most of the wintry weekend.
In Darley Park there was only a light dusting of snow but it didn't stop families coming out with sledges.
Police said the heavy flurries yesterday afternoon caused problems as roads became inaccessible, leading to several closures.
A police spokeswoman said: "It was coming down thick and fast in Ripley and especially bad in Ashbourne and Bakewell and north into Buxton."
Yesterday police in Buxton were only able to respond to life-threatening calls because the roads were so bad.
Gritters went out yesterday and in the early hours of this morning to spread salt on major roads.
Both the A57 Snake Pass and the A619 at Baslow were closed at lunch time yesterday because of the snowy conditions.
Derby mountain rescue team had to help transport an 82-year-old woman from her isolated cottage in Lea Bridge, near Matlock, to hospital on Saturday night.
The snow led to a woman being injured in a two-car crash in Eaton Hill, Baslow.
Fire services said she was trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed by fire crews. She was taken to hospital by air ambulance.
East Midlands Trains said there were no cancelled services.

“Continuation,
I have noticed these past few years a deviation in the seasonal calendar that has become more apparent over the years at first there seemed to be an overlap between the mouths separating the seasons which then progressed with spring and the summer mouths being earlier and longer with the winter mouths becoming shorter which by the way adds credence to the fact that the earth is warming up however there are other factors that have not yet been explored that may give an explanation other than the green house gas effect and they are the speed and the momentum in which the earth orbits the sun and the suns gravitational pull and effect on the earth has it spins on it axis we no from NASA that the sun.s mass has become greater by a small amount therefore one would think creating a greater gravitational pull on the earth slowing the momentum of the earth has it rotates and spins on it axis round the sun burring in mind that the earth takes one year to complete its entire obit around the sun therefore the seasons should be in sink but they are not and yes I know this is some what of a wild statement and possibly far fetched but it would be no more than the speculation of globule warming by green house gasses and both would contribute to the earth warming up”

“More like the Atlantic Conveyor is slowing down and the jet stream is moving closer to the north pole has normal, and since we are on a elliptical orbit travelling clock wise round the sun and spinning clock wise on our axis we are approaching our furthest point from the sun with the normal tilt of 5 degrees to Magnetic north, however carbon omissions are not helping”
