Tuesday, September 16, 2008, 21:30

ROBINSON CONSTUCTION PREMIER DIVISION

Wards 13 Old Kings Head 0

Wards met with Old Kings Head this week in what turned out to be a very one sided game with Wards going nap and hitting thirteen without reply. Wards really started with a bang by hitting eight goals in the first 16 minutes. Ryan Manning scored 4 of those then went off injured. Either Old Kings Head found a few defensive qualities or Wards eased up, because only another 3 were added to the scoreline by half-time. Again Old Kings Head regrouped in the second half to only concede another two. The other goals were added by Chris Moss with 4, Neil Stokoe with 3 and Gavin Whitehead 2.

Osmaston FC 7 Corn Exchange 2

Osmaston FC continued where they left off last season in this first game against newcomers Corn Exchange. Dan O'Connell with 2 led the way for Osmaston FC with other goals coming from Claude Briscoe, Lewis Kerr, Shaun Roberts, Jonathon Mitchell and Sam Blount. Consolation goals coming from Matt Smith and Martin Gough for the Exchange.

Needles FC 4 Sherwood Foresters 3

In a hard but fair game between two newly promoted sides, Needles just edged out the Foresters by 4-3. Needles took a 2-0 lead through Buxton and Theaker. Hutchinson pulled one back for Sherwood just before half time. Buxton with his second restored the 2 goal advantage for the Needles, but goals from Evans and Muir seemed to have snatched a point for the Foresters, but a superbly hit lob over the keeper from 25 yards by Coleman put the Needles back in control and secured the points for the Needles and kept them in second spot.

SENIOR DIV 1

Brick & Tile 1 Gregorys Bar 2

Simon Newbold opened the scoring for Gregory's Bar early on with an equaliser coming from Gaz Treharne for the Brick. The game remained at stalemate until about 10 minutes from the end when Jeff Stevens sealed the victory and points for Gregorys Bar.

Vernon Arms 1 Raynesway Spartans 3

Raynesway Spartans took a two goal into half time with goals from Kev Halton and Tom Miszkowski. Vernon Arms pulled one back through Aaron Pegg only for Tom Miszkowski to restore the advantage for Raynesway with his second of the game.

Gregorys 2005 2 Jonty Farmer Rams 4

Jonty Farmer Rams came out on top despite two goals from Jak Burt for Gregorys. Brendon Gotheridge with 2 and one each from Tim Grahl and Graig Fallows grabbed all three points for the Jonty.

SENIOR DIV 2

Castlebar Rams 4 Maypole 3

Castlebar Rams have had a very good start to the season getting the better of Maypole in a 7 goal game. Hopkins with 2 and one each for Julien and Gilmartin ensured they stay top. Maypole had McCready with 2 and Russell on the scoresheet trying to grab a point.

Coach and Horses 2 Peregrine 4

Two goals from Damian Clark and one each from Sam Godfrey and Joe Drew keep Peregrine in touch at the top. Keren Roberts pulled two back for the Coach & Horses.

Jonty Farmer 6 Atletico Andalucia 2

A first half hat-trick from Joe Morris and one from Dave Baker for the Jonty gave them a 4-2 lead with Jamie Sparkes pulling two back for Atletico Andalucia. Joe Morris made his tally 4 and one from Callum Gibson made the final score 6-2 in favour of the Jonty Farmer.

INTER 1

Scholar Utd 4 Cornishman 06 3

Darren Macey with 2 Jef Ecob and Damion Hetherton gained the first points of the season for Scholar Utd in this 3-2 win over Cornishman who came close to a point through two goals from Junior Patel and one from Matt Smith.

INTER 2

New Zealand Arms 3 - 2 RL Athletic

The New Zealand wrapped up a worthy victory against the early season pace setters in Derby Taverners' League Inter 2 division. After a sluggish start which saw the New Zealand absorb early pressure, RL Athletic scored with their first real effort on goal after A. Braisby spilled a cross at the feet of Dave Lambert, who took the chance. Ellis soon got the New Zealand back on level terms rounding the keeper and slotting home after getting on to a measured through ball from Groves. Ellis grabbed his and New Zealand s second goal, latching onto a long throw and flick on from P Braisby. Ellis then turned provider, holding the ball up on the edge of the box and laying it into the path of Stone who struck home.

The pitch made it difficult for both sides, but some good football was played by both sides. Athletic pulled one back midway through the second half with a free kick from Gaz Taylor, and pushed on towards the end but could not find the equalizer.

As RL pressed and threw players forward in the final minutes they left gaps at the back. RL's advancing keeper was robbed by Ellis outside the box and he ran free on an empty net, shooting from 10 yards out to complete his hat trick, but missing the gaping goal. To his relief, the referee blew the final whistle moments later and spared his blushes. Despite this defeat RL Athletic remain on top with a better goal difference.

Chellaston Rams 2 West End Brick 2

The first league meeting went ahead today with the West End Brick travelling away to Chellaston Park to meet Chellaston Rams. The game started with very few chances to show in the first 20 minutes with only a few glimpses of hope for West End with some fine runs by young Paul Beresford, one of which paid off for him in the 20th minute as West End Brick were awarded a free kick just inside the centre of the oppositions half where John Kidd lofted a ball over the top down the centre to Kevin Brown where he controlled a timed pass perfectly to Paul Beresford just outside of the 6 yard box to leave the keeper with no chance.

The game then turned in favour of Chellaston Rams and West End Brick then were needing to defend for the first time in the game and were guilty of giving errors away cheaply which then turned costly by the 35th minute with a solo effort from Michael Bestwick to equalise for Chellaston Rams which kept the score level at half-time.

The second half kicked off in the same manor as the first half with the West End Brick controlling the start with yet again Paul Beresford running the show, scaring the opposition with his speed and dribbling which again paid off with a solo goal, a long range strike to drop over the goal keeper to make it 2-1 to West End Brick in the 60 Minute. The game then yet again swung in the momentum of Chellaston Rams but not to the same degree as the first half as the defence were holding a better position and controlling the back line a lot better, but this mattered non as by the 82nd minute M Bestwick was brought down by Mark Davies just inside the box. He took the penalty himself to again pull Chellaston level and a share of the points.
