Lewin climbing high after his latest cap

Tuesday, November 25, 2008, 07:30

LEWIN Nyatanga won his 22nd cap for Wales in the recent friendly against Denmark and finds himself rubbing shoulders with some famous names in the list of players capped while playing for Derby County.

Nyatanga moved above the legendary Steve Bloomer, who played 21 times for England while with the Rams, and Charlie Morris, a left-back, who collected 21 of his 27 Wales caps during his time at the Baseball Ground between 1900 and 1910.

Nyatanga now sits alongside Archie Gemmill in the list of Rams internationals.

Only nine players feature on the list above the pair – Deon Burton (42 caps for Jamaica), Mart Poom (36 for Estonia), Peter Shilton (34 for England), Igor Stimac (29 for Croatia), Roy McFarland (28 for England), Alan Durban (27 for Wales), Colin Todd (27 for England), Sammy Crooks (26 for England) and Mark Wright (24 for England).

Given Nyatanga is only 20, the chances are he could add quite a few more caps as a Derby player and continue to climb the list.
