Swans chairman welcomes Rams' withdrawal of Bodde bid
Friday, July 04, 2008, 07:30
Derby had bid £1.5m rising to £2m with add-ons for the 26-year-old but claimed Swansea “moved the goal-posts” and increased the asking price to £2.5m.
The long-running transfer saga remains in the balance with chairman of football Adam Pearson saying Derby would watch the situation, while the Swans' chairman, Huw Jenkins, said: “We hope the saga's over.”
Jenkins added: “I'm pleased to hear that Derby have pulled out of the running to sign Ferrie.
“We have said all along that we want to keep him and we hope this will be the end of the saga.
“I've said previously that the whole situation is no good for anyone and I would love this to go away.
“Whether that happens will depend on Ferrie knuckling down and concentrating on preparing for the new season with us.”
But the situation looks far from settled.
Bodde has been quoted as saying he wants to join Derby on more than one occasions in recent weeks and there could still be another twist in the saga.
Swansea believe Bodde could still start the new Championship campaign at the Liberty Stadium.
“He is our player and he will be until we decide to accept someone's offer,” said Jenkins, who claims not to have asked £2.5m for Bodde.
“It's not true to say we've asked for £2.5m. We've never asked for anything for Ferrie because we don't want to sell him.” added Jenkins.
“We've never talked about an asking price, we've only said that we value Ferrie at around £2m.”
