Who will stand as an independent?

ARE any of you having a dilemma and a crisis of conscience concerning who the good folk of Chellaston and Shelton Lock should vote for in the forthcoming round of local government elections, scheduled to take place in Derby on May 6?

If Gordon does the right thing and calls the General Election on the same day, to me it would have been a no-brainer, anyone except Beckett.

The young chap the Tories have got will probably do it for me but the soul-searching decision will be who should represent us on the council.

The Lib Dems have not got any chance in Chellaston so voting for them is a wasted vote, in my opinion.

Can anyone in their right mind consider voting Labour, knowing what they don't do for Derby or the country?

That brings us to the Tories. If you are of a right-ish persuasion, you should be drawn towards the Tory candidate but now knowing who they will foist on us, I'm not so certain.

Their candidate has not been chosen by any member in the ward. The candidate was a member of the Labour party and elected a councillor as a Labour candidate.

So he was a Labour councillor who defeated the sitting Tory councillor by nine votes in 2006 and not long after that defected to the Tories and no-one has endorsed his candidature.

I simply can't in all conscience vote for such a hypocrite and a bunch of hypocritical Tory councillors.

I thought my prayers had been answered the other day, having received an election flyer from Councillor Alan Graves, who is standing as the Independent candidate for Derby South.

I immediately thought he was standing in Chellaston ward and was crestfallen on reading he was going for a parliamentary seat.

So, all I can say is I can't vote Tory in Chellaston, unless they change their candidate.

Is there no-one out there who will be our independent?

Stan Willitts,

Chelwood Road,

Chellaston.

“If Mr Willitts feels so strongly then the solution is simple. Stand himself.

Or maybe he's one of those tiresome armchair politicians who is perfectly happy to denigrate the efforts of others while getting off their backsides and getting things done.”

“Oh dear Mary. Blind loyalty is not an attractive trait dear. Me thinks there is a bout of double hypocricy at work here.
I say here here to Stan”

“Forgive me if I am wrong but did Councillor Ingall beat Paul Willitts? Sour grapes me thinks! All I can say is Councillor Ingall works hard for all residents in the Chellaston ward all year round and I don't care which party he is in he will always get my vote.”
