MASON Bennett is set to make Derby County history after being named in the starting line-up to face Middlesbrough this afternoon (3pm).

The teenage forward will become the youngest ever player to make a first-team appearance for the Rams, at the age of 15 years and 99 days.

He beats the record previously held by winger Lee Holmes by 169 days.

Holmes made his Derby debut on Boxing Day in 2002, aged 15 years and 268 days.

Bennett, from Shirebrook, has impressed for the Rams' under-18 side this season and was an unused substitute in the Carling Cup first round tie against Shrewsbury Town in August.

The highly-rated England youth international replaces Tomasz Cywka, who drops to the bench despite scoring in Tuesday night's 2-2 draw at Reading.

The only other change sees Lee Croft come in as a makeshift right-back as Russell Anderson is struggling with a tight hamstring, with John Brayford (thigh) also ruled out.

MIDDLESBROUGH: Steele, McMahon, Williams, McManus J Bennett, Hoyte, Bailey, Arca, Zemmama, McDonald, Emnes. Subs: Kink, Martin, Haroun, Tchuimeni-Nimely, Ogbeche.

DERBY COUNTY: Fielding, Croft, O'Brien, Shackell, Roberts, B Davies, Hendrick, Bryson, Ward, M Bennett, Robinson. Subs: Legzdins (gk), Kilbane, Doyle, Cywka, Maguire.

REFEREE: C Boyeson (East Yorkshire).

“Very very odd that Maguire is not getting a place given how we pursued him over the summer. Croft also seems to have slipped off the scene, or perhaps he's picked up a niggle? Heyho.
Anyway, hope Bennett has a great game!”
