"We're delighted that Martin O'Neill and his Sunderland side will be heading to Pride Park in the build-up to next season," said Rams boss Clough.
"Sunderland's squad contains plenty of international players such as Sebastian Larsson, John O'Shea and James McClean – who are likely to play some part in the European Championships this summer for Sweden and the Republic of Ireland.
"It'll be great for our fans to see them in action, while it will also be good for our players to test themselves against Premier League players.
"I have no doubt Martin's side will certainly provide us with a stern test, which will be ideal in our preparations for the 2012-13 season."
Meanwhile, the Rams have played down reports linking them with a move for 18-year-old Bolton Wanderers winger James Caton.

“Put your money where your mouth is .
Some of you are sooooooooo sad .
Tadd, try putting sensible sentences together ,your posts
are so disjointed.
N.C will be like a very good wine, getting better and better
as time and experience gathers.
He stayed at Burton and did an excellent job for so long because
he is LOYAL,money does not rule him ,football does...
In 10 or 15 years time as D.C.F.C get stronger under his rule you will
see what i mean.
Inbetween time......................
CLOUGH IS THE FUTURE OF D.C.F.C .
get used to it you CLOUGH haters............LOL.”

“I assume you mean Bueno but yes possibly, although other players from Spain and even Africa have cut it in England.
You'd think with the foreign influence at the club, American owners, although the Yanks aren't exactly renowned for their 'soccer' prowess, but surely Johnny Metgod must have some Dutch and Spanish connections.
Perhaps with our limited budget Nigel feels the risk is too great of it not working out.”

“Could be down to the fact home grown talent is cheaper ,not sure.
i would have thought they find it harder to settle in too, especially
with the amount of ''non-sunshine days '' over here if they come from
such as spain.
The last player from sunny climes ...Biano ? cant remember ,is that right ?
he had loads of talent but failed to ''mix-it'' and our winter i think put him off.”

“Why do we seem to have so little involvement with the international scene?
No foreign teams visiting and few overseas players, especially ones actually brought in from abroad.
Is this a weakness in our scouting or does NC feel British players are best?”
