Call to change pension rules

Tuesday, May 19, 2009, 07:30

BUSINESS leaders in Derbyshire says the Government's planned pension reforms have not been properly considered and will hit the flexible labour market.

From 2012, all workers will be automatically enrolled into a qualifying pension scheme from which they can opt out.

But according to a report by the British Chambers of Commerce, this could mean temporary workers who go from job to job finding themselves priced out of work because of administrative costs.

Phil Stanyer, the president of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber, says temporary workers should not have to go through the process of opting out every time they start a new assignment.

He said: "It would make sense if agency workers only had to opt out once every three years or so."
