We want radio presenter who is easy to listen to

IS it too much to ask that Radio Derby employs someone who is easy to listen to?

I have had my moans about presenters in the past, but the recent two take the biscuit, namely the foghorn that presents the morning show. Sally Pepper might be good at showing us the weather on East Midlands Today, but is not easy to listen to on the radio.

The other presenter is Ed Dawes who commentates on the Rams matches.

“I fully agree with Starlight, unpleasant voices with frantic or an otherwise affected style drives me crazy. As Ray Jordan says in his letter, "We want a radio presenter who is easy to listen to" I would think that Ray Jordan would agree with me when I say that as far as radio presenters go, Mr Mackenzie was a shining light. It is fine for "Why-nicknames" to say, "Here we go again! I wondered how long it would be before somebody felt the urge to use the 'M' word again" but so many people cannot help but compare present radio presenters with a quality presenter like Paul Mackenzie.
Mr Mackenzie was the only presenter to make my family and I laugh out loud. If there was more laughter in this world we would all be so much better for it.
A good voice is absolutely essential for radio, some voices I here on the air would be better replaced with a barking dog.
The idea that the newspaper studios are used to a fuller extent is a very good idea, someone should investigate possibilities of this.”

“Have been really disappointed with the news that Phil Trow is leaving the breakfast show on Radio Derby. I always thought Shane O'Connor would be a tough act to follow and I must say I was unsure for the first few months that Phil was presenting but over the last few years he has become a fantastic figurehead presenter on Radio Derby and I hear he had the best breakfast figures for many years.

I think he has been the unsung hero of the station during his time on breakfast and whilst the rest of the output has slowly deteriorated, he has kept up really high standards and I think has continually improved. His departure will be a real loss to the station as I really can't see who they're going to get to present the programme with the authority and the personality that Phil does.

Good luck to Phil - he'll be a real loss in the mornings but I look forward to his final week.”

“I expect the next "voice on a stick" will be someone who will be even more irritating than the one they're getting rid of. The reason they have people with awful voices is so listeners don't fall asleep. It's very difficult to fall asleep when you're pulling your hair out. No wonder "M" is cropping up again. Get him back before we're all bald!”

“I cannot allow you to be a voice in the wilderness Mr Jordan, if people were not so apathetic around here putting up with the screeching from Pepper, the motor-mouth in the morning and some other amateurs who now churn out whatever they call entertainment, we might have a half decent local radio service.
I wish to show no disrespect to Paul McKenzie's limited performances in the podcast on this site, but if he returned to local radio with a suitably balanced program, my interest in that radio station would return to what it used to be – the main part of my listening day! Since Paul McKenzie left, the station's programs have deteriorated beyond all recognition. Having said all this, would Paul Mackenzie go back if he were asked? I do hope he would.
THISISDERBYSHIRE should extend the present Paul Mackenzie pod casts to what would be for all intents and purposes, a radio show. I do not think for a moment the studios at THISISDERBYSHIRE are earning their keep, what else is put together there? As there are studios in place for the present shows, why not go the whole hog? We certainly would have a good source for local news!”
